Abstract:

Contains materials used to write Sierra-Nevada Lakes, by George and Bliss Hinkle. Also includes papers relating to Hinkle's teaching career; a scrapbook; and materials relating to C.F. McGlashan. The C.F. McGlashan materials include: items used by the Hinkles to revise the History of the Donner Party, by C.F. McGlashan; Rocky Stone Tower museum; a book of poetry and drawings sent by a prisoner of San Quentin to McGlashan; wanted poster for Fred Lawson captured by McGlashan; railroad telegraph invention.

C.F. McGlashan is best known for his book on the Donner Party. McGlashan also ran a museum in Truckee about the history of the area that highlighted a large rocking stone with a tower built on top; invented a train signaling system; and was an educator. Bliss McGlashan Hinkle was the daughter (or granddaughter) of C.F. McGlashan.
